Following a successful assessment, the certificate is issued. Certification is valid for three years and is maintained through periodic surveillance audits.

For organisations already certified to ISO 14001:2015, the publication of the new ISO 14001:2026 edition marks the start of a transition process that should be planned carefully. The expected transition period is 36 months: existing certifications must be migrated to the new edition by 30 April 2029. Planning the transition in good time makes it possible to incorporate the update into the regular audit cycle, identify any gaps, update the management system and prepare the people involved without concentrating all activities in the final months available.
