How to meet the requirements of Hong Kong Ship Recycling Convention

10 Jul 2023

Master IHM Maintenance for responsible ship recycling practices with RINA Global Marine Training Centre

The Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships will become active within the next 24 months, starting from June 26, 2025. .

What does it change?

Ship owners and operators must comply with specific regulations, including the development and maintenance of the Inventories of Hazardous Materials (IHM), which provide comprehensive information about dangerous substances present on ships. All ships, whether they are already scheduled for recycling or newly built, must carry an IHM on board. For existing ships, the IHM should be in place within 5 years after the Convention takes effect.

Our marine training course on IHM Maintenance

To assist maritime professionals in meeting Hong Kong Ship Recycling Convention requirements, RINA Global Marine Training Centre offers an updated marine training course on IHM Maintenance.

By enrolling in this course, you will gain essential knowledge of the regulatory framework for ship recycling and understand the responsibilities of shipping companies starting from 26 June 2025 and beyond. This comprehensive training will equip you with the skills needed to perform all the necessary activities for the development and maintenance of the IHM.

In addition, we also provide an additional day for Hazmat Expert training, which leads to the certification required to carry out IHM activities. This certification will enhance your expertise in handling hazardous materials and contribute to the safe and environmentally responsible recycling of ships.
