Independent Checking Engineer

Verify compliance with employer's requirements

Modern design and build contracts for metro and railway projects require more and more the involvement of an engineer, fully independent from designers and suppliers, whose scope of work and responsibility consists in the design verification or independent check.

The Independent Checking Engineer (ICE) services we provide include the verification of:

The activity is carried out in accordance with the RINA governance model, which safeguards impartiality and prevents conflict of interest situations.

Main benefits

The purpose of the design verification engineer is to provide an independent verification that allows you to timely resolve technical issues and to prevent mistakes and errors potentially leading to litigation.

The ICE role, included in our offer as a high added value service for general contractors, ensures time reduction in the design phase and eventually cost savings during the implementation phases and final delivery.

Deliverables

The ICE process is usually described in an ICE plan, which is issued at the early stages of the project. The document provides the detailed scope of work, the organization and responsibilities for each party involved in the ICE programme.

We issue periodical ICE reports in order to provide evidence of the design verification activities, for both civil works and electro-mechanical systems. Each ICE report will be issued to the contractor in order to endorse the design submissions to the employer for review.

Any modification following the employer's comments will be implemented in a new revision of contractor's deliverables, which will be subject to a new independent check.
