The RINA Rules for the Certification of Best Management Scheme of companies owning or managing passenger ships define a new and innovative certification scheme to reward the company management system in its entirety.

A global management system amplifies the benefit of each single management system, and encourages coverage of areas not yet considered.

The rules are not prescriptive and concern the following areas:

  • Personnel Management
  • Technical Management
  • Safe Operation
  • Management of Change
  • Incident Investigation and Analysis
  • Environmental Management
  • Emergency Preparedness and Contingency Planning
  • Health and Safety
  • Hotel Services
  • Security and Piracy
  • Quality
  • Social Accountability.

Specific requirements are defined for each area and a value is assigned to each requirement.
In order to obtain the certification, at least one requirement from the 11 different areas is to be implemented.
