Green power and energy efficiency investments community-financed for football buildings

RINA is part of the new GREENFOOT H2020 project

GREENFOOT has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement no. 893858 to finance football building energy efficiency renovations and renewable energy installations through a crowd-funding scheme that propels Europeans to become active participants in the energy transition through their love of football.

The project will officially start on 1 September 2020 and it will develop and implement a community-based financing scheme for renovating football buildings including stadiums, practice facilities, and related buildings (e.g. team headquarters, fitness centres) with energy efficiency and renewable energy measures.

Under the coordination of Energie Institut, GREENFOOT Project Consortium (made up of RINA, European Crowdfunding Network, EURACTIV, Football Association of Ireland, Azerbaijan Football Association, EFDN, EDF and the French Football Federation) will develop creative crowdfunding investment packages that allow sports fans and community members to partner with their favorite clubs to improve energy use, fight climate change, and contribute to a cleaner local environment by September 2023.

The project includes, besides major international football clubs as partners, a strong link with UEFA, and direct outreach to over 90 private clubs through the European Football for Development Network.
