Amid rising demand for LNG, RINA engineers have completed a feasibility study for the existing onshore LNG regasification terminal in Panigaglia in northern Italy. The study looked at the technical possibility of carrying out small-scale LNG services at the terminal.
Activities included the assessment of residual life of the existing jetty (piles, concrete and LNG transfer lines) and analysis of required interventions to guarantee LNG supply through small vessels and trucks on barges. The study also included a pre-feasibility project schedule and cost estimate, as well as analysis of the environmental and safety permitting path and identification of territorial constraints. RINA also assessed the pre-feasibility of installing new small-scale LNG storage terminals inside major Italian ports, taking into account port master plans, safety and environmental criteria, plus technical constraints such as space availability.
