Ensuring that the right training is developed and delivered for Regular and Reserve troops

Challenge

The Army’s Directorate of Training (DTrg(A) manages and maintains an on-going cycle of analysing the ‘operational requirement’ of the British Army and reviewing the validity of current training against this requirement. Part of the process involves the production/update of training documentation in line with the Defence Systems Approach to Training (DSAT) to ensure the right training is developed and delivered for Regular and Reserve troops.

A top level review of training for Army officers had identified the requirement for a revision of training in line with current doctrine and in light of the requirement to deliver generic training, not the operation focus of training during military operations in Afghanistan.

Approach

Edif ERA was contracted by DTrg(A) to review and update existing training documentation for Army officers in Career Stage 1 to ensure training was aligned to Contingency Operations and the future Army 2020 concept. A set of 6 individual training groups were specified, each receiving an updated Job Specification (Job Spec), Job Scalar (Job Scalar), Operational Performance Statement (OPS), Formal Training Statement (FTS), Assessment Strategy (AStrat) and Assessment Specification (ASpec):

Six sets of endorsed DSAT documentation, enabling the subsequent re-design and delivery of training for Army Regular and Reserve officers in Career Stage 1 aligned to the current operational requirement.
