D'Appolonia awarded new contracts

Over the next few years D’Appolonia will support both the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in the evaluation of their projects from an environmental, health, social and safety point of view, after being awarded two important framework contracts.

Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC)
OPIC, the U.S. government’s development finance institution, has awarded D’Appolonia a 5-year framework contract to provide environmental and social consulting services. OPIC mobilizes private capital to help solve critical development challenges and helps U.S. businesses gain footholds in emerging markets worldwide, catalyzing revenues, jobs and growth opportunities both in the U.S. and abroad. OPIC applies the World Bank Group’s environmental and social standards, assessment, and monitoring procedures.

D’Appolonia has been selected to review proposed projects seeking OPIC support and to evaluate their environmental, social, health and safety aspects to assure they meet OPIC’s requirements. The contract covers all emerging markets / developing countries and several sectors, i.e. infrastructure, agribusiness, industry, power generation, and mining.

D’Appolonia will:

  • Provide environmental and social support for OPIC projects during environmental and social screening, due diligence, loan documents drafting and review, and first disbursement and post-closing phases
  • Conduct desk-based or on-site monitoring of OPIC projects to assess compliance with OPIC’s environmental and social requirements
  • Conduct specialized/focused assessments or reviews, facilitate workshops or trainings, and assist with other environmental and social analyses as requested by OPIC
  • Assist OPIC in updating or drafting policies and procedures

Inter-American Development Bank (IDB)
D'Appolonia has won a 3-year framework contract with the IDB to assist its Environmental, Social and Governance Department (ESG) in the environmental, health, safety, and social aspects of any project in their portfolio. ESG’s mission is to address environmental and social impacts and risks in Bank operations and to develop and disseminate knowledge that enhances the management of both impacts and risks in order to benefit internal and external clients and stakeholders as a means of fostering sustainable development in the region.

D'Appolonia will support the ESG both in the assessment and monitoring of IDB financed projects and in the preparation/update of the required ESG materials, including the provision of training and an e-learning course.
