EMC support for Doha Metro ahead of the FIFA World Cup in 2022

Qatar is currently undergoing major infrastructure development in preparation for hosting the FIFA World Cup in 2022. One of the major projects is the Doha Metro, an underground metro network being constructed in central Doha. The first phase of works includes the construction of three out of the four lines (Red, Gold, and Green) and 37 stations.

Edif ERA has won a contract with ALYS JV (Gold Line main Civil & MEP contractor) to undertake the EMC system assurance assessment and EMC Hazard analyses for the MEP systems installed in the tunnel sections for the Gold Line.

ALYSJ is a joint venture (JV) made up of five organisations: Aktor of Greece as the lead of the JV, India’s Larsen & Toubro, Yapi Merkezi Insaat & STFA Group of Turkey and Al Jaber Engineering of Qatar.

EMC plays a significant part in the railway industry due to the complexity of the railway systems and the severe EM environment. Failure of systems to operate in this EM environment can lead to poor system reliability which in turn could compromise the safety of passengers and staff.

Edif ERA supported the contractor in carrying out EMC risk analyses for the scope of work and prepared various EMC system assurance documentation. The outcome of the EMC assessment ensured the contractor has complied with the project’s contractual EMC requirements and all EMC related risks have been identified and mitigated to an acceptable level.
