ECOMONDO 2018

06 - 09 Nov 2018

RINA is taking part in the green technologies expo as a partner of H2020 research projects HISER and TASIO

Ecomondo is the leading Euro-Mediterranean area green and circular economy expo and a reference event in the international panorama, where all the leading companies of the sector can meet to be updated about the new trends, innovations and technologies and exchange views with experts.

RINA is involved in several research projects that promote circular economy practices and Giorgio Urbano - RINA Technology Upscaling - will attend the fair on 7 November in order to present HISER’s latest results and on 8 November in order to give an overview of TASIO project.

HISER is a research project that has received funding from the European Union's  Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under grant agreement No 642085. It aims at developing and demonstrating novel cost-effective holistic solutions (technological and non-technological) for a higher recovery of raw materials from ever more complex construction and demolition waste (C&DW) by considering circular economy approaches throughout the building value chain (from End-of-Life Buildings to new Buildings).

In the framework of the project, there are several activities going on:

  • Smart demolitions and refurbishment: HISER project consortium is designing novel harmonized procedures and smart tools contributing to a cost effective highly efficient selective sorting at source during the execution of demolition and refurbishment works,
  • Automated sorting and recycling technologies: 5 main innovative automated sorting and recycling technologies are going to be introduced to the market,
  • Automated quality assessment system: HISER is setting out the conditions and requirements under which sensor technology can be successful in C&DW processing, which are still undetermined in the state of the art
  • New building products: HISER partners are developing new green cements, concrete, bricks, gypsum and composites
  • Implementation of an Integrated Environmental and Economic Assessment from Life Cycle Perspective
  • Development of policies and standard recommendations

TASIO project will end in 2019 and it has developed an innovative Waste Heat Recovery System for Energy Intensive Industries, based on the Organic Rankine Cycle technology, with Direct Heat Exchange. These solutions are able to recover the waste heat produced in energetic intensive (EII) processes of industrial sectors such as cement, glass, steelmaking and petrochemical and transform it into useful energy for internal or external use.
