RINA Green Building System to take up the challenge of building sustainability

For construction industry market, sustainability means the awareness of the environmental impacts that concern the whole life cycle of a building.

RINA has developed the innovative “Green Building System” service, based on international standards and aimed at providing benchmark technical support for organizations that take up the challenge of building sustainability.

The activity is carried out in accordance with the RINA governance model, which safeguards impartiality and prevents conflict of interest situations.

The purpose of such service is to improve the quality of living and working environments and, at the same time, to protect and preserve the environment and natural resources. This will lead to an increase of value of real estate assets, with regard to:

  • investor confidence and stakeholder satisfaction
  • reduction of building management and maintenance costs
  • access to various tax, economic and financial concessions.

Focus on sustainability

The concept of sustainability and smart building - using renewable energy sources, adopting building automation technology for self-assessment and to adjust activities to reduce consumption – has to be adapted to meet the challenge of climate and environment.

Such concept will continue to develop and will also incorporate others main pillars: system engineering and static safety aspects on one side, seismic, energy and environmental performance on the other, both mutually supportive to improve the quality of life.

Nowadays “green building”, more than a design choice, is a necessity which will lead to the reorganization of the whole construction chain sector towards a new way of operating, involving all stakeholders: material and component manufacturers, designers and construction companies.

Innovation of processes, materials, technological and construction solutions is thus a mandatory choice for both new and existing buildings, through design solutions and energy retrofitting integrated in a more general context of building sustainability.
