RINA certifies all the organisations of the Barilla chain according to “Carta del Mulino” together with ISCC PLUS system: farms, storage centers, mills, traders, Barilla plants.

The Carta del Mulino is a guidelines owned by Barilla G. e R. Fratelli S.p.A., drafted in collaboration with WWF Italia, the University of Bologna and Open Fields.

It is a continuously evolving document, reviewed annually, with the purpose is to enhance biodiversity and build value for communities.

The "Carta del Mulino" incorporates improvements and new knowledge for the production of sustainable common wheat and is composed by two main parts:

  • The compliance with the ISCC PLUS certification (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification)
  • The compliance with Barilla's rules for the cultivation, conservation and processing of the sustainable common wheat

Certification Procedure

The main phases of the certification procedure are the following:

  • The applicant sends the request for certification to RINA
  • RINA reviews the request and defines the offer
  • In case of acceptance of the offer RINA opens the contract and plans the audit activity.
  • RINA carries out the audits at the organisation's site(s)
  • RINA issue the certificate of conformity in accordance to “Carta del Mulino”
