Waste Framework Directive (WFD) SCIP: Database requirements and demonstration

Attend this RINA course online via live webinar

scip-database-trainingAs of the 5 January 2021, any EU company supplying an article in the EU containing a Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) in a concentration > 0.1% (w/w), is required to submit information to the SCIP (Substances of Concern In articles, as such or in complex objects (Products)) Database. The database is being established by European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) as a result of the revised Waste Framework Directive (WFD) that entered into force in July 2018.

RINA’s new course will ensure delegates are aware of the upcoming duties for the SCIP database so they are in a position to prepare their organisation to meet the 5 January 2021 obligation. A demonstration will be provided of how to submit a realistic notification of both a simple and complex article using ECHA’s prototype database including helpful tips on data preparation and efficient submission.

What will be covered?

The course will consist of an overview of the requirements of the SCIP database based on the prototype database (Note. Version 1 of the database is not available until October 2020), any advised changes to the prototype and any guidance documentation provided by ECHA. The circumstances under which a notification is required and who is obliged to provide the information will be explained.

A demonstration of how to submit a notification shall be shown, outlining all of the required information for both a realistic simple article and complex article, allowing delegates to become familiar with the system and how to use it. During the demonstration advice shall be given on how companies can prepare their data in support of the submission and how to efficiently manage their obligation to provide the required information. Delegates will be provided with the opportunity to ask questions about the database and their obligations.

A key summary sheet of requirements will be provided after the course, as well as access to the presentation material until the Version 1 of the database is released by ECHA.

Who should attend?

This course is applicable to all:

No prior knowledge of the SCIP database is required, but knowledge of the basic principles of REACH would be useful. The course tutors offer unique guidance on product compliance based on many years of technical experience and they will explain how to take practical and effective steps to comply.
