Consultancy Services to support the Government of Mauritius in the implementation of an Accelerated Technology Transfer Platform

In 2015, the Government of Mauritius spelt out in its Vision 2030 Blueprint the need for increased R&D and Innovation in Mauritius.

Since the last few years, and the continued advocacy efforts of the MCCI on innovation, the Government of Mauritius has come up with a number of incentives and schemes to attract investment from international innovative companies to set up base in Mauritius and at the same time stimulating domestic direct investment.

These efforts include a revised Industrial Property Bill, which makes provision for the accession of Mauritius to a number of international IP protocols. With this new IP landscape being devised, there is a need to provide the necessary business linkage and support services to promote IPR generation and commercialisation in Mauritius in order to increase Research & Development and Innovation.

RINA has been awarded the contract for consultancy services to support the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) in the implementation of an Accelerated Technology Transfer Platform, issued by EuropeAid, the Commission's Directorate-General for International Cooperation and Development (DG DEVCO).

The project aims to help the Republic of Mauritius move towards a high-income, innovation-driven economy, particularly through the protection of Intellectual Property Rights, the leveraging of research and innovation locally and by bridging the technological gap between research and the business world through technology transfer from abroad.

In particular, in cooperation with ICE - International Consulting Expertise EEIG and ETI, we will provide activities related to:

  • setting up and operationalisation of the ‘MCCI Accelerated Technology Transfer Platform’ as the focal point for business operators involved in and interested in Intellectual Property (IP) and technology acquisition in Mauritius;
  • organisation of Peer-to-Peer learning with Technology Partners;
  • sensitisation of business operators on the use, protection and commercialisation of IP and the benefits and opportunities for technology transfer;
  • establishment of Technology partnership linkages between the MCCI and relevant International Partners;
  • training of practitioners on the drafting of IPR Agreements.

The activities focus on Capacity Building for the Mauritius entrepreneurial sector and the project results will support Mauritius to take a core position in the Indian Ocean in the field of IP protection and patent management.
