MaRINA Excellence: interview Carmine Sanna

The Marina of Capri received the certification MaRINA Excellence, attesting the quality of services offered by tourist ports, following an independent and objective evaluation of portual, touristic and accommodation services, and of commitment to environmental sustainability and safety. The Marina of Capri achieved a very good result according to the scheme, obtaining 24 Plus e 50 Gold certification, which attest its capacity to host vessels over 24 and 50 metres long.

In this interview, the general director of the Marina of Capri Carmine Sanna tells the benefits that MaRINA Excellence certification will bring to the port and the reasons why he chose to initiate the procedure to obtain this prestigious certificate.

What are the main reasons that led you to request MaRINA Excellence certification?

Undoubtedly, the intention to verify the variety and the level of the quality of the services offered by the Marina of Capri and the area. This in relation to a recognised standard promulgated by a company specializing in the naval and nautical field, also allowing us to detect and correct any critical issues.

What are the strenghts that allowed you to receive this certification?

First of all, the environmental context, understood as a set of nature, folkloric, historical and enogastronomic aspects, but also of services for Marina clientele – provided directly by the facility or mediated by it when offered by the operators present. In quality and variety, these services constitute a special case in the landscape of Italian tourist port infrastructure. For example, the chance to go shopping with a personal shopper 24 hours a day in shops of the best Italian and international brands. Or the possibility of having on board chefs, tailors and coiffeurs. Moreover, always on request, there is a 24/7 service of bakery and grocery delivery. Finally, it is possible to ask for a driver or helicopter transfers. We are prepared to fulfill any other requests that might arise from customers. Other strong points are the high level of professionalism of the Marina staff and the top-quality customer service in the navigation and docking phases, especially for the bigger vessels, and the high-quality services of internal transport.

What benefits do you expect your work to gain from MaRINA Excellence certification?

Firstly, the chance to correct any critical issues and to highlight our strenghts. The opportunity to communicate externally the quality of services issued by a trusted and highly qualified third party within this framework. Then, a higher attitude to standardisation of operations of our working group. The last benefit is the improved quality of our services.

How do you think your relationship with customers will change?

We expect an improvement in the - already pretty relaxed - relations when the customer approaches administrative and procedural issues, with a view to the evidence of compliance with quality standard. The achieving of this certification fits into a broader strategic action including the obtaining of ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 certifications and of SA 8000 standard for the Marina of Capri, thanks to the support of RINA, by October 2018.

List the reasons why you would recommend the certification to any colleague.

The adherence to quality certification standard provides an unprejudiced analysis of state-of-the-art and of possible solutions to critical issues. Furthermore, MaRINA Excellence certification provides a fair and transparent communication to customers, improves the operational dynamics of the working group and ensures a better perception of information about initiatives.
