Increasing Combined Cycle flexibility thanks to heat pump and thermal storage

In the PUMP-HEAT project 14 partners from all over Europe, coordinated by the University of Genova, aim to demonstrate how a proper integration of heat pump and thermal energy storage can increase combined cycle flexibilization, in the current RES Based EU energy markets where combined cycles are asked to supply electricity to the energy markets in a fast-response way.

The newly proposed combined cycle layout will be demonstrated in the Moncalieri Power Plant, managed by IREN, exploiting the expertise of relevant key industrial players in the field of both gas turbines, energy utilities and such as Ansaldo Energia, Siemens, Mayekawa, Clauger, Orlen, Mitsubishi Hitachi and Alfa Laval.

The PUMP HEAT Project kicked-off on the 18th and 19th of October in Torino and RINA will play a relevant role in the project as administrative and financial coordinator.
