Energy management systems

ISO 50001 certification

The standard specifies the requirements for an energy management system and enables an organisation to execute a systematic approach to continuous improvement of energy performance, and greater energy efficiency and sustainability.
ISO 50001 certification applies principally to organisations that consume significant amounts of energy.
This certification allows an organisation to:

ISO 50001: 2018

ISO 50001 has been technically revised in 2018, with the goal of  improving energy management in terms of efficiency, use and consumption. This version specifies how to establish, implement, maintain and improve an energy management system according to the new ISO High Level Structure.

ISO 50001 provides requirements for a systematic, data-driven and facts-based process, focused on continually improving energy performance.

Rina has recently implemented updates to the new 50003:2021 for EnMS verification activities according to ISO 50001:2018.

Service Details

About 70% of the energy consumed in the world comes from fossil fuels: oil, natural gas and coal. The environmental impact of this given data, along with the EU's climate goals (full decarbonization by 2050) is forcing organizations to review their consumption and adopt alternative and innovative solutions. In addition, if we consider the exponential increase of the energy’s cost, saving and introducing energy performance management into daily operations becomes essential for all types of organizations. As a matter of fact, a control in consumption and a containment of the energy costs ensures, in a relatively short period of time, not only considerable savings in internal business costs, but also a valuable contribution to the global preservation of energy resources.

Certification Procedure

Documentary analysis, which can be carried out at the headquarters of the organisation or at the RINA office, involves the following requirements:

Each ISO 50001 energy certification activity identifies and assigns specific auditing teams competent in the scheme and the sector.

Why RINA?

For ISO 50001 certification, RINA has been accredited by Accredia according to ISO 50003 for all the technical areas (Industry - light to medium, Industry - Heavy, Buildings, Buildings compexes, Transport, Mining, Agriculture, Energy Supply), without geographical constraints. Therefore, RINA can provide the service for any type of organisation, wherever it is located.
