Challenge

Lürssen Design Center Kvarner is the Croatian base of the German shipyard and the world’s largest yacht builder.

To maintain high standards of efficiency, quality, and compliance with international standards, the Lürssen Design Center Kvarner team needed to strengthen its expertise in the design, construction, outfitting, and safety of large commercial yachts.

Aligning their competencies with key classification standards and mandatory international regulations, particularly in relation to statutory surveys, was essential to effectively managing and planning inspections and checks on its yachts.

Lurssen training

Applied expertise

RINA delivered a comprehensive course on class and statutory inspections for yachts, designed to train professionals capable of ensuring high standards of quality, safety, and reliability within the international maritime sector.

The training program was designed to outline the relevant regulatory framework, ranging from the fundamental principles of class rules to international regulations (MCA, SOLAS, MARPOL, ILLC, and others), including safety codes such as the "Large Yacht Code" (Red Ensign Group Part A), as well as procedures for mandatory onboard inspections and verifications.

Finally, selected examples and case studies enabled the practical application of the concepts learned, challenging the team with hands-on exercises aimed at developing the ability to identify and anticipate risks, while also ensuring greater consistency in the execution of inspections.

Impact

By participating in our course dedicated to classification rules and international maritime regulations, Lürssen was able to update its team’s knowledge and align it with market regulatory requirements through a mix of theory, examples, and practical exercises.

This enables Lürssen to continue operating in the commercial yacht market while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Finally, the team members received certificates of participation and course completion issued by RINA.
