Key preventive measures include:
- Hot-spot assessment: a visual inspection to check, identify and map pipelines, associated fittings and equipment to pinpoint exposed potential ignition points, detecting spots over 220°C by thermographic analysis. A feedback assessment is made to determine the corrective actions to be implemented.
- Ro-Ro space electrical equipment assessment: an evaluation of the spaces used for the carriage of vehicles and dangerous goods on transport units classified as hazardous zones with special requirements for electrical equipment and wiring that must be suitable for explosive atmospheres. Additional measures are evaluated in case of carriage of AFV’s.
- Passive fire protection verification: an inspection designed to assess the effectiveness of fire protection arrangements throughout the vessel’s operational life. The assessment verifies the compliance of onboard spaces with their intended use, the efficiency and readiness of fixed fire-fighting systems and equipment, the availability and accessibility of escape routes, and the operational preparedness of crew members. The inspection also aims to identify conditions that may pose potential risks to the prevention, containment, and extinguishment of fires. Upon customers request, third-party audits can be conducted on board to assist the ship management in verifying the operational readiness of the personnel responsible for the ship's fire safety devices.
- Preparation of check-lists: a tailored document on the type of fire risk assessment to be carried out on board the ship. The check-list also contain a narrative section to document observations, attach photos taken during the inspection and provide additional verification related to mandatory instruments.
