The complex, developed by the Joint Venture led by RINA as project leader together with Corvino + Multari S.r.l. and Climosfera S.r.l., will host the Embassy of Italy in Nairobi, the AICS offices, the Italian Cultural Institute and the Consulate, as well as auxiliary buildings and service areas. The project is located in one of the city’s most prominent areas, the Muthaiga district, on the edge of the Karura Forest.

The project was developed through a multidisciplinary and digital approach, based on BIM (Building Information Modeling) methodologies and 3D models to coordinate all technical disciplines—from urban planning to landscape design, from architecture to structural engineering, from building systems to environmental strategies.

RINA oversaw the technical coordination, structural and geotechnical design, BIM management and safety aspects, ensuring consistency across all project components and an integrated workflow. The architectural and landscape design aim to balance modernity with a strong integration into the natural context, enhancing visual continuity with the surrounding environment and adapting to the site’s morphology.

The compound is composed of eight buildings hosting different functions, connected through pedestrian and vehicular paths that maintain a constant dialogue with the natural landscape. Each building has been designed to guarantee high standards of functionality and safety, with differentiated routes, flows and access levels to meet operational and institutional needs.

The project also stands out for its energy efficient and environmentally sustainable solutions, as well as its focus on user comfort. These include strategies for energy and water savings, improved air quality and long term system durability. Key features include photovoltaic panels for clean energy production, phytodepuration systems and rainwater harvesting for irrigation, along with materials and technologies designed to ensure acoustic comfort and reduce maintenance costs.efficient and environmentally sustainable solutions, as well as its focus on user comfort. Reviewed by GETSO Consultants Ltd and approved by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the project represents an important milestone for Italy’s presence in Kenya and a significant professional and technical opportunity for all teams involved.

For RINA, contributing to this project has meant applying expertise and vision to deliver a complex that brings together functionality, safety and environmental responsibility. A project that speaks of collaboration, attention to detail and shared commitment.
