Driving innovation in hydrogen testing, inspection and certification for a greener Indonesia

RINA Indonesia hydrogen

We are proud to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between RINA and PLN Pusertif (Pusat Sertifikasi), a subsidiary of PT PLN (Persero), the state-owned electricity company entrusted with developing and maintaining the majority of Indonesia’s electricity infrastructure.

This strategic collaboration marks a significant milestone in supporting Indonesia’s energy transition, focusing on the development and utilization of green hydrogen through comprehensive initiatives in testing, inspection, and certification.

Under the MoU titled "Capacity building in the development and utilization of hydrogen in the field of testing, inspection and certification," we will work together to:

- Develop green hydrogen certification schemes, including the implementation of certification of green hydrogen origin (using ISCC requirement) to ensure transparency and traceability across the hydrogen value chain.

- Certify hydrogen facilities and products: carry out certification and assessment activities for hydrogen production facilities, hydrogen products, and their handling and utilization processes to meet international standards.

- Implement Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and enhance energy efficiency: support the adoption of LCA methodologies to evaluate the environmental impact of hydrogen production and improve energy efficiency across operations.

- Provide training and certification in hydrogen competencies: design and deliver professional training programs, as well as certification for personnel involved in the hydrogen sector, aiming to build a robust, skilled workforce.

- Assist laboratory development for H₂ testing: strengthen the capabilities of local laboratories to operate in hydrogen environments, supported by expert technical teams to ensure world-class testing standards.

- Explore broader cooperation opportunities: pursue additional initiatives related to hydrogen and other energy transition activities based on mutual agreement and potential developments.

This partnership underscores a shared commitment between RINA and PLN Pusertif to advance Indonesia’s hydrogen infrastructure, foster innovation, and support national sustainability goals.
