RINA is now accredited according to ISO 17029

06 Mar 2023

We are the first certification body in Italy and among the first in Europe to get the ISO 17029 accreditation for GHG validation and verification activities

RINA is the first certification body in Italy and among the first in Europe to achieve the transition with ACCREDIA to the standard ISO 17029:2019 and ISO 14065:2020 for validation and verification activities (V&V) in the environment field.

On 22 February 2023, the Accreditation Committee for Certification and Inspection of ACCREDIA ruled in favor of the transition for RINA Services S.r.l.

In a very dynamic market, we are proud to be the first to adopt the innovative approach of V&V activities according to the ISO 17029 standard, which:

  • focuses on the strategic planning phases based on validation and verification risk assessment
  • meets the requirement to reduce the exposure to possible increasing technical and reputational risks for both companies and validation and verification bodies.

ISO 17029 standard: validation and verification activities

Validation and verification can be applied in many areas to guarantee that declared information (claims) have reliability for the market.

The term claim refers to any information declared by the organisation that relates to the object of validation or verification by the accredited body, that has characteristics that can be measured at a precise time frame, or predicted and expected in the future. Reports, declarations, assertions, programs, graphs, statistics, etc. may fall within this classification.

Their distinction between validation and verification is:

  • The validation activity is the confirmation of a claim, through the exhibition of objective evidence, which shows that the requirements relating to the intended use or application have been met. It is the confirmation of plausibility.
  • The verification activity is the confirmation of a claim, through the exhibition of objective evidence, which shows that specific requirements have been met. It is the confirmation of truthfulness.

The accreditation according to ISO 17029 guarantees consistency to the process of validation and verification based on risk management, regardless of areas of application (which will likely become increasingly extensive).
