RINA creates a H2-ready carbon steel line pipes method statement

Carbon steel line pipes can be qualified for hydrogen transportation and distribution

RINA has developed a new ‘H2-Ready Method Statement’ for the qualification of manufactured carbon steel line pipes for hydrogen transportation and distribution.

The H2-Ready Method Statement provides steel pipe manufacturers with a clear and systematic definition of the applicable requirements to be satisfied during the production of carbon steel pipes for gas transmission pipelines, in order to qualify line pipes as ‘hydrogen ready’ in accordance with the principles of the ASME B31.12:2019 standard for ‘Hydrogen Piping and Pipelines’.

This new H2-Ready Method Statement covers material traceability, manufacturing routes, steel grades, chemistry, mechanical properties, welding, hydrotesting and inspections throughout the entire manufacturing process. Once the requirements of the H2-Ready Method Statement have been satisfied and properly verified by RINA, an official statement will be issued stating that the piping production in question is H2-Ready.
