RINA EMC Consultants Successfully Complete HIRF Certification Tests onboard Embraer KC-390 Aircraft in Brazil

16 Nov 2018

This HIRF testing has enabled Embraer to achieve type certification from the Brazilian aviation authority

The KC-390 is a new generation twin-engine jet-powered multi-mission transport aircraft under development by the Brazilian aerospace manufacturer Embraer, able to perform aerial refuelling and to transport cargo and troops. Embraer contracted RINA to undertake High Intensity Radiated Field (HIRF) testing and assessments on the KC-390 in support of the aircraft airworthiness certification process.

RINA mobilised a team of HIRF test engineers and specialised HIRF test equipment to Embraer’s Gavião Peixoto airfield São Paulo, Brazil to perform measurements of HIRF induced wiring bundle currents (LLSC tests) and HIRF attenuation of aircraft equipment zones (LLSF tests).

This HIRF testing was successfully completed on the aircraft which was configured, in turn, in both its Civil and Military configurations and has enabled Embraer to achieve type certification from the Brazilian aviation authority, Agência Nacional de Aviação Civil (ANAC).
