Digital Ship Athens

The leader event to discuss the most important topics of maritime digitalisation

13 - 14 Nov 2019
Athens (Greece)

Reaching its 17th edition, the Digital Ship Athens represents the leader event to discuss the most important topics of maritime digitalisation, in the world's largest shipping and technology centre. The main topics include:

  • Satellite communications and the way the current situation is changing with L band, VSAT and LEOs. The discussion will also focus on whether the new LEOs are a threat to L band and VSAT or it is a competition that the traditional providers are comfortable facing.

  • Cybersecurity and the different risks and concerns connected.

  • Onboard digital systems, if they fit for the expected purpose and if they make it as effortless as possible to safely navigate a vessel.

  • Digitalization project management, since more and more companies are choosing people as project managers for new digitalization projects.

  • Fuel efficiency data, as companies are trying to reduce fuel consumption through the gathering and analyses of data, though this is not an easy task due to the great difference among vessels.

  • Predictive maintenance, which consists in predicting which parts will fail before they do. This is however difficult to do and there are efforts to find out effective machine learning techniques to work, by spotting patterns in the sensor data.

During the event, there will be a series of panels and presentations about these and other topics and several speakers will take the floor, including Alessandro Pescetto, RINA’s Marine Digital & Innovation Director, who will give a presentation on the best practices on fuel efficiency data on 14th November.
