Find out more about our H2020 Project ReSiSTant

14 - 15 Oct 2019
Catania (Italy)

We are glad to announce that Emiliano Costa – RINA Industrial Design & CAE – took part in the 1st Conference on Sustainable Mobility organised by the Department of Industrial Engineering of the University of Rome Niccolò Cusano to present our ReSiSTant H2020 project.

“ReSiSTant” has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 760941 and it targets the optimization of two industrial pilot lines by using micro- and nanostructured surfaces for drag reduction.

In particular, ReSiSTant will develop innovative “ribleted” surfaces, which consist of tiny streamwise grooved surfaces which reduce the drag in the turbulent boundary layer of up to 8%.
The usage of such surface developed in the framework of “ReSiSTant” could give benefits in terms of efficiency, CO2 reduction and noise emission and further a positive economic and ecological impact.

In the framework of this conference, Emiliano presented the paper entitled “Increase of Compressor Performance through the Use of Microstructures” and showed the application of a numerical procedure to support the design of riblets over the surfaces of an industrial compressor in in order to increase its efficiency.

The industrial compressor is actually demonstrator Number 2 in ReSiSTant project.

The identified ideal size of the riblets poses big challenges in terms of their realization, manufacturing and deposition, but it also constitutes a solution for providing a positive contribution to mobility.
