Noise & Vibration services for mega yachts

Take advantage of RINA additional class notations: Comfort Class Large Yacht and Dolphin Class

Noise & vibration - megayachtWhat is Noise and Vibration comfort? For us, it is to navigate feeling only the waves gently impact the hull and walking on the warm teak without perceiving vibration. Comfort onboard yachts is to have the perception of running on the sea.

Nowadays, that yachts could reach incredible performances and new technologies permits to design beautiful lines, the real challenge is to build quiet and vibration free yachts.

Our noise & vibration services allow you to pursue the noise and vibration comfort during both design and construction.

Benefits and advantages of RINA Noise & Vibration services

Developing a noise and vibration analysis during the design phase helps to:

Our service is aimed to improve comfort onboard yachts but also to reduce noise pollution.

Service Details

After the clients defines the design of the yacht and before the construction, RINA noise and vibrations experts will perform the noise and vibration propagation analysis and delivering provide the client with a technical report. In case of non-compliance with contractual limits/rules, we will perform new calculations to identify the best solution.

Analyses are performed with a commercial software using SEA (Statistical Energy Analysis) for noise propagation and FEA (Finite Element Analysis) for vibration propagation. In addition, we developed several additional class notations regarding comfort onboard and underwater noise emitted by yachts.

Since 2016, RINA Additional Notations Comfort Class Large Yacht is a complete notation, applicable to yachts up to 40 m and evaluating both passengers and crew comfort during navigation and at anchor.

Details make the difference: RINA Comfort Class Large Yacht notation guarantees high privacy standard in compliance with the requirements on the bulkhead and decks insulation.

Available from July 2022, our new definition of the Comfort Large Yacht Notation accounts for overnight navigation comfort as well.

RINA is one of the first classification societies to develop a special notation in noise & vibration area: our Dolphin Class additional Class Notation and relevant regulations (into force since 2016).

RINA Dolphin Class is valid for all types of vessels, including mega yachts, and aims to help operators adopt the correct navigational conditions when crossing mammal sanctuaries or in case of sea mammal sightings.

RINA Dolphin Class notation ensures low underwater noise emissions, contributing to the preservation of marine fauna. Moreover, it brings significant benefits for the operators themselves: a reduction in noise emissions will attract more sea life, increasing the chance of sightings. Indeed, ocean mammals and fish will not approach the source of excessive noise, but instead keep their distance to protect themselves.

Moreover, lots of countries are developing new regulations to restrict underwater noise emissions and preserve fish and mammals, while many port authorities offer incentives to ships having a class notation regarding underwater noise.

Why RINA?

Every day, our mission is to guarantee the most comfortable life both onboard yacht and under the sea and we meet shipyard working to develop the most comfortable, beautiful, and luxury yachts.

Our noise & vibration experts support clients during all yacht life. From the design stage (performing noise and vibration propagation analysis to highlight possible issues and avoid noise and vibration problems during sea trial) to navigation time (performing noise and vibration measurements).

We continuously develop research activities on noise and vibration subjects, updating our rules to guarantee the highest standards possible.
