The Great Silk Road: towards the new frontiers of development

02 May 2018

Forum and opening ceremony of the Turkmenbashi Seaport

The Silk Road was the most enduring trade route in human history, being used for about 1,500 years. These routes developed over time and according to shifting geopolitical contexts throughout history. Nowadays Turkmenistan turns into an important intersection of the railroads, large transport and transit centre of Eurasia.

In this scenario, the Forum aims to promote the dialogue between the transport and logistics stakeholders of Caspian Region, Europe and China as it serves as the basis for transport and logistics business promotion in Caspian Region and along Europe and Asia transport links via Caspian Sea.

One of the key points of this purpose is to improve the interoperability of logistics centres and transport hubs, including major seaports, along such routes.

RINA attends the conference as part of the Turkmenbashi Seaport project, whose opening ceremony takes place within the conference. The $2 billion construction of this new port infrastructure was awarded to the Turkish contractor GAP İnşaat, who appointed us to provide design verification, site supervision and procurement inspections.

The Forum is organised by:

  • The State Service of Maritime and River Transportation of Turkmenistan
  • Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan
  • Turkmenbashi International Seaport
  • and will be attended by high-level officials from railway, maritime and transport companies, as well as port and public authorities.
