Established in 1978, RINA SSM (Studio Sperimentale Metalsiderurgico) has been providing testing and inspection services to the mechanical engineering, shipbuilding, petrochemical and energy industries for almost five decades. Our activities include mechanical testing, chemical analysis and metallographic examinations on a wide range of materials.
At our laboratory, highly qualified technicians perform welding using the main welding processes, including shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), MIG/MAG and flux-cored wire welding, TIG welding and submerged arc welding (SAW). These activities are carried out to assess the chemical and mechanical properties of welding consumables, supporting both quality control requirements and product approvals in accordance with the rules of major classification societies.

Accreditation is a formal recognition, granted by an independent third-party body, of a laboratory's technical competence, impartiality and ability to perform conformity assessment activities.
Accredia awards accreditation only after a comprehensive evaluation process verifying compliance with all applicable technical and management requirements.
Accredited test reports provide a high level of confidence in the quality and reliability of the results, supporting the safety of tested products and facilitating their acceptance in international markets.
Worldwide, accreditation is governed by the international standard ISO/IEC 17011, "Conformity Assessment – Requirements for Accreditation Bodies Accrediting Conformity Assessment Bodies." Within the European Union, accreditation has a legal status and is recognised as an activity performed in the public interest under Regulation (EC) No. 765/2008, which requires each Member State to appoint a single national accreditation body.
Accredia is the sole national accreditation body designated by the Italian Government.
