Clearwater Gas | Utility Network Migration

Clearwater Gas significantly strengthened the accuracy, reliability, and long-term value of its asset data by migrating to Esri's Utility Network. Prior to the migration, only a limited subset of assets participated in the legacy network, resulting in data gaps and inconsistencies across critical features. Moving to the Utility Network established a unified, rule-based model that dramatically improved data integrity and operational confidence. 
We led the end-to-end assessment and migration of Clearwater Gas's legacy data into Esri's Utility and Pipeline Data Model. Working closely with Clearwater stakeholders, we mapped existing assets to the new model, identified gaps, and tailored the implementation to align with business and workflow requirements. Using our proprietary migration tools, data quality issues were automatically identified, prioritized by severity, and resolved-accelerating cleanup efforts and reducing project risk. The resulting Utility Network delivers a fully traceable, system-ready network that positions Clearwater Gas with an integrated and streamlined solution that supports more informed operational and planning decisions.

Marathon

We were engaged to provide engineering and design services for a project to add Butane deliveries to the Marathon Griffith Station in Griffith, IN. The project included a pipeline to connect to an adjacent facility, piping modifications to analyze the incoming Butane, blend the Butane, and revisions to tank piping to allow circulation during blending. A portion of the new pipeline was routed above grade requiring additional pipe supports and modifications to existing pipe supports. Electrical modifications included cable and conduit layout and wiring diagrams for power, controls, and communications. 

Florida City Gas

For this project, we designed and permitted approximately 39,800 feet of new 6-inch coated steel pipeline within existing road right-of-ways. The engineering scope consisted of plan and profile drawings for the installation and included crossings for the C-24 Canal and FEC railway crossings. These crossings will require permitting with environmental, SFWMD and Florida East Coast Railway, respectively. The project will require topographic survey with SUE level B and geotechnical studies for the critical areas (C-24 canal and FEC Railway) and Sue Level D for all other project locations. The project was broken down into phases based on permitting requirements and the last phase was delayed while the client secured the location for the regulator station required to be located at the end of the pipeline system.

Replacement project for approx. 34,800 ft. of gas distribution main an associated services in 25 non-contiguous main segments within an area of approx. 2 square miles. The replacements included approx. 6,400 feet of 4" PE mains for main feed connections, approx. 28,400 ft of 2" PE mains for the remainder of the relocations, approx. 80 new valves, and approx. 70 tie-ins. The project scope included SUE Level D for most of the area and Level A for some key locations to properly develop tie-in location details. Deliverables included replacement plans, tie-in details, restoration details, bill of materials, maintenance of traffic diagrams, city, county, and state permits, and multiple purge into service and main retirement plans. We had scope added after beginning the design process to verify the accuracy of the data available for the critical tie in locations. A sub specializing in this work was engaged for soft digs at these key locations. The field location and depth data gathered were used to correct data and verify that excavations for tie-ins were identified correctly. These measures saved the client time during the construction phase as there was less exploratory excavation work needed to find tie-in locations.

We coordinated survey data gathering and utilized geotechnical data provided by the client to complete the horizontal directional drills (HDD) engineering design of two 8-inch, 3,000-foot-long pipeline crossings of the Elkhorn River in Nebraska.

We also designed piping modifications and upgrades to the two valve stations on each side of the river crossing.

The project was on a quick timeline due to the flooding conditions and the impact on the existing pipeline.
