Delivering cost-effective design-build solutions for diverse industries

RINA North America design-build services

Our expertise

RINA understands the drivers behind alternative delivery methods, including design-build and EPC. Clients in industrial manufacturing, railroad, ports, and terminal industries, as well as local and federal agencies rely on RINA for successful design-build solutions that focus on schedule and cost performance. RINA’s in-house contracting, estimating, and design experts enable us to concentrate on meeting our client’s operational objectives, at a pace that optimizes the project schedule and overall cost.

By maintaining open avenues of communication and a partnership mentality, RINA provides cost-saving value by efficiently using in-house resources, as well as specialty subcontractors, serving as the general contractor for projects.  RINA has access to construction bonding as needed.

Our projects

ENGIE | OSU Waterman Farms Utility Expansion

At The Ohio State University’s Waterman Farms area, ENGIE needed expanded electrical and gas services to support campus facilities.

We performed design and construction services for the utility extension, including medium-voltage electrical distribution, circuits, underground ductbank, gas service, civil design, and construction execution. The work provides a backup power source for buildings in the affected area.

As design-build engineer and contractor, we helped coordinate utility, civil, electrical, and construction requirements under one delivery approach. ENGIE | OSU Waterman Farms Utility Expansion

Sustainability Partners | Jacksonville University Water & Sanitary Main Improvements

Jacksonville University selected a design-build approach to replace critical potable water infrastructure on campus.

After completing an initial system study, we designed and constructed a 1,000-foot-deep well, associated piping, and electrical infrastructure to connect to the existing plant. The new well produces more than 750 gallons per minute of raw water and was commissioned in early 2021.

The next phase replaced aging storage tanks, distribution pumps, generator, piping, chlorination system, and supporting treatment and distribution components to improve system reliability.

Nature Fresh Farms | Ohio Phase 2 Substation Upgrades

Nature Fresh Farms selected us to install high-voltage upgrades for its Phase 2 greenhouse expansion in Delta, Ohio.

After completing design services for the substation expansion, we expanded our role into full design-build delivery that included electrical, civil, structural, construction management, and general contracting services. The project supported a greenhouse operation that grows and distributes organic foods across North America.

The work strengthened an existing client relationship and helped deliver the power infrastructure needed for a major facility expansion.

Ports of Indiana | Jeffersonville Bulk Terminal

The Jeffersonville Bulk Loading Terminal was delivered as a design-build project for the Ports of Indiana.

The new facility unloads grain and fertilizer products from railcars or trucks and loads them directly onto barges on the Ohio River. The project included design, permitting, procurement, and installation of a half-mile rail loop with a rail scale, rail dump building and pit, marine mooring improvements, conveyance systems, and supporting site infrastructure.

By combining civil, structural, rail, electrical, permitting, construction management, and general contracting services, we helped deliver a multi-modal terminal that connects rail, truck, and river transportation.

NRG | Homer City Lime Unloading Facility

At Homer City Generating Station, NRG needed a lime rail unloading facility to support a new flue gas desulfurization unit.

We served as EPC contractor for the design-build delivery of lime conveyance equipment and structures, support infrastructure, dumper lead track, and an adjacent railyard for car storage. Design services included survey, geotechnical and foundation design, civil, structural, rail, electrical, conveyor systems, and environmental consulting.

The project required an aggressive schedule, work in a congested active plant area, coordination with plant operations and other contractors, utility identification and tracking, and careful earthwork and retaining structure design.
