RINA North America: delivering cost-effective design-build solutions for diverse industries

RINA North America design-build services

Our expertise

RINA North America understands the drivers behind alternative delivery methods, including design-build and EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction).

Clients in industrial manufacturing, railroad, ports, and terminal industries, as well as local and federal agencies rely on us for successful design-build solutions that focus on schedule and cost performance.

Our in-house contracting, estimating, and design experts enable us to concentrate on meeting our client’s operational objectives, at a pace that optimizes the project schedule and overall cost.

By maintaining open avenues of communication and a partnership mentality, we provide cost-saving value by efficiently using in-house resources, as well as specialty subcontractors, serving as the general contractor for projects.

Our projects

We provided design-build services for a Class 1 railroad to install a bulk transload facility in their existing railyard.

The facility was developed to unload either railcars or trucks of various agricultural products and transfer the materials into intermodal shipping containers.

We performed conceptual design, permitting, design (civil, structural, rail, electrical, and mechanical), and general contractor services to complete the project.

We designed and built a replacement 285,000-gallon wastewater surge tank for an industrial manufacturing facility in western Illinois.

The new tank was built to API 650 standards and a secondary concrete containment system was added.

To construct the tank, we had to maintain temporary service to the facility and accomplished this by building a temporary storage tank and the associated infrastructure.

As part of the design-build project, we performed design services for this project including the civil and structural design of the secondary containment, mechanical design of the piping and infrastructure, and the associated electrical, instrumentation, and controls design.

We installed a new pebble lime rail unloading and delivery system on a design-build basis for a generating station in eastern Pennsylvania.

The lime is used within the power plant to reduce sulfur emissions from the combustion of coal.

Our contract included full design-build services for the lime conveyance equipment and structures (rail dump shed and pit, transfer towers, silo distribution), support infrastructure, dumper lead track, and an adjacent railyard for car storage.

Design services provided by us included survey, geotechnical and foundation design, civil design, structural design, rail design, electrical design, conveyor systems design, and environmental consulting.

Our construction services included construction management and contracting, material procurement, scheduling, cost estimating, safety management, and coordination with plant operations and other plant contractors.

A Class 1 railroad partnered with our company on a design-build basis to construct a new interchange track and connection to an adjacent Class 1 line along their right-of-way in Illinois.

The project included approximately 12,000 feet of new track to accommodate storage of a unit train, as well as relocation of a township roadway and public crossing to allow vehicle traffic to pass when a train is on-site.

We worked with our Class 1 partner to develop an initial project concept, completed full design services, and acted as the General Contractor to complete the project construction.

Design services provided by us included survey, geotechnical, rail, and civil drainage design.

Our construction services included at-risk construction management and contracting, material procurement, scheduling, cost estimating, safety management, and coordination with railroad personnel and labor forces.

We replaced 14 railroad bridges along a Class 1 railroad line in central Illinois.

Seven of the bridges were previously designed and were constructed by us, while the remaining seven bridges were completed by us as a design-build package.

The project was completed under an aggressive schedule to meet the client’s transportation needs, which required all of the bridges to be replaced within ten months.

To minimize track outages during construction, we installed the new bridge foundations without disturbing the existing track structure, and then used a unique precast concrete pile cap design that allowed the entire bridge to be replaced within a ten-hour window.

Design services provided by us included survey, geotechnical and foundation design, hydraulic analyses and permitting, and structural design.

Our construction services included at-risk construction management and contracting, material procurement, scheduling, cost estimating, safety management, and coordination with railroad personnel and labor forces.
