Providing comprehensive site and civil engineering services

RINA North America site civil engineering

Our expertise

RINA offers a full range of civil engineering, geotechnical, environmental, and site development services, including construction management. We serve as facilitators for stakeholder groups, interface with regulatory agencies, and provide expert testimony in public hearings. We understand our clients’ concerns for structural compatibility, efficiency in operations, and durability of our solutions. With these challenges in mind, RINA’s engineers assist clients in the industrial, manufacturing, and municipal sectors in determining the best use of land with a unique focus on safety, efficiency, and lifecycle costs.

Calibrant Solar | Site Civil design and permits

Calibrant is developing a solar array and battery energy storage system to provide on-site renewable energy for ExxonMobil’s refinery in Channahon, Illinois.

For the site civil and permitting effort, we are delivering an ALTA survey, topographic and planimetric survey, geotechnical investigation, Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments, solar output and layout review, non-ministerial permitting, and civil engineering design through 60% plans.

The work builds on our long history at this ExxonMobil site and supports renewable energy integration within an active industrial facility.

Continental Building Products | Rail Expansion - Florida

We were selected to be the engineer of record for a 27.57MW DC/ 20MW AC solar facility located in the Midwest.

We developed the site/civil design for the project, which included existing conditions and site preparation, solar array, utilities and equipment layout, access road, fencing, substation and laydown area, geometrics and details, tracker pile, inverter and transformer equipment foundations and details. t

We prepared the site stormwater pollution prevention plan, a hydrology report which included pre- and post-development stormwater runoff estimates.

Additional hydrology analyses and civil design were performed to elevate modules and inverters in portions to address flooding concerns from a localized depression within that tract.

We also performed project electrical design and prepared record drawings following construction.

Nucor Steel | Bar Mill Building Expansion

Nucor Steel Kankakee’s Mill 2 building expansion required coordinated civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering support.

We performed a topographic survey of the planned expansion area, including above- and below-grade utilities, existing grades, and information needed to develop plans for the existing building. The design included grading plans, erosion and sediment control, building extension details, and supporting MEP information. The project helped Nucor advance an expansion within an active industrial steel facility while addressing site, structural, utility, and electrical design needs.

Mississippi Sand | Greenfield Silica Mine - Site Design

A greenfield silica mine in central Illinois required zoning, permitting, land planning, and civil site development support before the undeveloped agricultural property could be brought into operation.

We managed and completed land use, environmental, geologic, hydrology, transportation, infrastructure, and site development tasks for the mining firm. The work included organizing the rezoning effort, developing mining and reclamation plans, construction permits, air permits, and NPDES permits.

The project supported a major private development intended to supply silica sand for use in the oil and gas hydraulic fracturing market.
