Timber regulation

Reduce the entry of illegal timber into the European market

RINA performs third-party audits in accordance with the due diligence system proposed by ConLegno (Cork Wood Service Consortium), recognised by the European Commission as a Monitoring Organisation.

Legal Framework

The EU Timber Regulation No 995/2010 has entered into force on 3/03/2013; it prohibits the placing on the market of timber products from illegal cuts.
Certification is one of the most significant efforts of the European Union to counter illegal timber entry to its market: it obliges the subject classifiable as operators to implement a due diligence system for timber supply chains at the point of first entry to the EU market.

Certification Procedure

RINA provides on-site verification, while certificates are issued by ConLegno.
