The Singapore Shipping Association (SSA) represents a wide spectrum of shipping companies and other businesses allied to the shipping industry. The national trade association is charged with the responsibility to serve and promote the interests of its members and to enhance the competitiveness of Singapore as an International Maritime Centre.
The affairs of SSA are managed by a seven member council elected biennially. Council members serve a term of two years. Among the elected Council Members, they may co-opt up to six Members into the Council, at least two of whom must be representatives of Ordinary Members of the Association.
At the 21st SSA Annual General Meeting held on 29 June 2017, the SSA announced the formation of the SSA Council (2017/2019). This week the Council unanimously agreed to co-opt an additional Councillor, Mr. Moretti, RINA Marine & Energy Asia Senior Director. He is stationed in Singapore and is responsible for the company activities in the marine and energy sectors in Asia.
I am delighted to be elected as a council member by the SAA and to be working with regional and international shipping organizations to protect the marine environment and promote freedom and safety at sea
said Moretti.
Esban Poulsson, SAA President said,
Our aim is to encourage the election of councillors with specific expertise across a range of disciplines, and with Mr. Moretti joining the Council, we have representation from the Classification Societies as well as the legal and finance sectors. I have the utmost confidence that he is fully committed to joining us as we seek to take SSA into the future.
Mario Moretti has a Master’s Degree in Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering from the University of Genoa (Italy) and has over a decade of experience with RINA. He arrived in Singapore in July 2016 as Area Manager for South East Asia and in January this year, he took on his present role of Marine & Energy Asia Senior Director.
