Eurosteelmaster, the advanced training course for the European steel sector organized by RINA, is aimed at managers, technical staff, researchers and other professionals operating in this industry and in related areas. Marina Carrea, Global Sales Strategic Marketing & Sales Support of Tenova, participated at the last edition, held in Taranto from May 14 to 18.
In this interview, she tells her personal experience and the impact that Eurosteelmaster had on her professional career.
What motivations and expectations encouraged you to choose Eurosteelmaster, and to choose it at this particular stage of your professional career?
I thought Eurosteelmaster was an excellent opportunity to enhance and anchor competence related to the market and to the entire production process of steel. For several years, I have been part of the Sales department in a specific business unit within Tenova (company of the group Techint). Since 2016, the more transversal marketing e sales support role for Metals Division has required greater awareness of the entire production process of steel. Attending this training course allowed me to verify the knowledge acquired and to deepen some technological issues.
What skills did you acquire or refine attending Eurosteelmaster and in what professional sector do you expect to capitalize them on?
Of particular interest to my position, were the market analyses and research presented and discussed with both EU representatives, European associations and research centres. Thanks to these reports, we could talk about topical subjects, such as custom duties, industry 4.0, environmental care and sustainability. The course has also been the occasion to deepen some technological aspects of the production process of steel, particularly in the upstream area.
According to you, what are the three reasons why a person with a background similar to yours should attend Eurosteelmaster?
In the training course, I found insights of issues relating to my economic background well integrated with engineering and technological topics. Furthermore, discussing and networking with the participants and the speakers was a plus of the study days. Thanks also to more informal moments, the personal meeting with colleagues of competitors and customers stimulated the debate and the dialogue on shared issues.
Tell an episode that marked especially positively your experience at Eurosteelmaster and that you will bring with you for your entire career.
The explanatory statement to the training course by Professor Ranieri reminded me of how important is steel for a country’s development. Indeed, the embryo of the present European Union dates back to the creation of the European Coal and Steel Community, born of the necessity to rebuild and develop European economy following the Second World War. Even today steel represents a leading sector for the economy of developed and developing countries and it is therefore necessary to focus technology and action towards the study of solutions with a less significant environmental impact.
