Asset Condition Assessment

We assess the condition of industrial assets, ensuring Fitness for Service and managing remaining life

RINA Condition Assessment

RINA Asset Condition Assessment

Effective asset management is critical to ensure safe and reliable operation up to and beyond design life.

Whether you operate in a refinery, chemical plant, power generation facility, mission critical infrastructure or on an industrial manufacturing site, we can provide you with a complete site-wide asset condition assessment.

The industrial assets that can be assessed

We can assess the condition of the following industrial assets:

  • Gas turbines, steam turbines, rotating equipment, compressors, pumps
  • Electrical assets (generators, transformers, switchgear, high-voltage (HV) and low-voltage (LV) cables, transmission assets, protection devices, uninterruptible power supplies)
  • Static equipment (pressure vessels, power boilers, heat exchangers, piping, heaters, reactors, tanks)

The kind of assessments we carry out

  • Remaining Life Assessment (RLA) and Remaining Useful Life (RUL)
  • Fitness for Service (FFS) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
  • On-site field metallography and assessment
  • Laboratory-based metallurgical assessment
  • Online and offline electrical testing
  • Prioritisation of electrical maintenance activities
  • Run, repair, replace decision support.

How do assess the condition of industrial and infrastructural assets?

Our consultants and engineers have a comprehensive knowledge of the failure modes and key damage mechanisms, which combined with our analytical laboratories, allows us to conduct a thorough process of planned inspection, testing and analysis through which we can establish their extent, severity and impact.

By combining the health data with criticality data, we produce a risk index which can provide decision support for CAPEX and OPEX optimisation.

We routinely work on a wide range of mechanical, electrical and electronic assets including boilers, heaters, pressure vessels, piping, rotating machinery, cables, transformers, switchgear and control systems.

As a long-standing independent consultancy business, our knowledge and experience enable us to provide the impartial advice highly valued by our clients.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is asset condition assessment?

Asset condition assessment is the evaluation of an asset through various inspections, destructive and non-destructive testing, operational data analysis, and review of maintenance practices to determine current condition and remaining life.

Why carry out asset condition assessments?

A thorough asset condition assessment will identify the health of an asset, identify any defects or life-limiting factors, and allow for mitigation to be applied to prevent an unexpected failure that would negatively impact on system reliability.

What are the outputs of an asset condition assessment?

Regular asset condition assessments can reveal operational trends in asset performance in terms of degradation leading to potential failures.  The studies will identify if current maintenance practices are appropriate for the operating conditions and will allow for optimised OpexCapital Expenditure (CapEx) and Operating Expense (OpEx) decisions to be made based on real-life technical data.
