Update: the Accreditation Body SAAS has postponed the come into force of the new Standard SA8000:2014. The transition period has been started on January 1st, 2016 until June 30th, 2017, in accordance with the following modalities.
We wish to inform you that a new edition of the SA 8000 Standard, known as
, has been published. This new edition of the Standard includes some significant changes and clarifies some of the existing requirements, in order to improve uniformity of interpretation and implementation.
An important innovation introduced by the recent revision of the standard SA8000:2014 is the creation of a self-assessment tool called
, a service provided directly by Sai (Social Accountability International) and available
on their website
. This tool consists in a Self-Assessment questionnaire to be filled in by each Organization before any first certification, transition and recertification audit, allowing them to measure the level of implementation of their Social Accountability Management System and facilitating the effective implementation of the SA8000:2014 standard.
On the basis of the information made available as of today by the Accreditation Body SAAS, the transition process consist in the following steps:
Organizations holding a valid SA8000:2008 certificate will have the possibility to carry out the transition to the new Standard SA8000:2014 at the time of a planned surveillance audit foreseen by the Surveillance audit program from January 1st, 2016 until June 30th, 2017.
- Starting from April 1st, 2016 all first certification audits will be carried out in accordance with the new revision of the Standard and all new certificate will be issued in accordance with SA8000:2014.
- The SA8000:2008 standard will be in force, in any case, until June 30th, 2017.
- As of June 30th, 2017 all certified clients in accordance with SA8000:2008 shall have transitioned to SA8000:2014, and any existing SA8000:2008 certificate will be invalid
Starting from July 1st, 2017, only the certificates issued in compliance with the SA 8000:2014 Standard will be valid.
