The RINA Railway Certification Laboratory was established in 2011 to certify products used in the railway signalling sector in accordance with European directive 2008/57/EC on the interoperability of European conventional and high-speed railway systems.
The laboratory has the most advanced equipment to check compliance of products intended to be used in the ERTMS/ETCS trackside and on-board subsystems.
The testing activities mainly cover the following areas:
EUROBALISE: BTM/Antenna, Balise and LEU;
EUROLOOP: LTM/Antenna, LOOMO/Leaky Cable and LEU/Loop;
ETCS on-board unit;
GSM-R: CAB RADIO, OPH, OPS, GPH, EDOR.
The high level of automation combined with RINA experience in testing products intended for the ERTMS/ETCS systems (control-command and signalling), ensure the client is given full assistance while the tests are being carried out as well as related reduced time and cost.
Development of the RINA Group know-how in the railway sector has led to the Railway Certification Laboratory being recognised internationally. This is borne out by the continuous cooperation with:
ERA (European Railway Agency) for the updating of the harmonised test specifications;
UNISIG (Union Industry of Signalling) for the revision of European specifications;
ANSF (Italian national authority for railway safety);
- other European laboratories for the development and validation of test instruments and relative procedures.
The EUROBALISE and ETCS sections of the Railway Certification Laboratory are accredited pursuant to the EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005 standard by the Italian Accreditation Body ACCREDIA for the test activities listed in the list of accredited tests
. For further information about the meaning of the accreditation see the meaning of EN 17025 accreditation
