RINA - AN ORGANISATION LEADER IN MARINE EQUIPMENT AND APPARATUS CERTIFICATION
RINA has a long tradition in certifying equipment, apparatus and systems which are essential for reliability and safety at sea as well as for pollution prevention in accordance with its own Rules for the Classification of Ships and national and international safety standards.
The RINA Type Approval program covers all the equipment and apparatus for which national and international safety standards contemplate the assessment of compliance with the applicable design and testing standards of product samples which can be considered representative of the whole production.

Since 1 January 1999, date of implementation of the MED Directive, RINA operates as Notified Body for the certification of marine equipment in accordance with European Community Directive 96/98/EC on marine equipment (MED Directive).

RINA also operates as Notified Body for the certification of pleasure craft and related equipment in accordance with European Community Directive 94/25/EC on pleasure craft.

Council Directive 89/686/EEC of 21 December 1989 on the approximation of the laws of the Member States relating to personal protective equipment establishes the basic safety requirements and certification procedures to be applied to this equipment before it is placed on the market.
The services offered by RINA concern TYPE CERTIFICATION for the following products:
- Life jackets, personal buoyancy aids/additional items;
- Buoyancy compensators;
- Self-contained underwater breathing apparatus and relative components;
- Wet suits and dry suits.
